Which version of QGIS are you using?

Please, remove all other temporary polygon layers (QGIS in older versions tends to mismatch temporary layers in processing input).

My system details are:
windows 10 64 bit
QuickOSM 1.4.6
Grass 7.2.2
QGIS 2.18.15

I beleive there is only 1 polygon.

Thanks

Ian

On the screenshot you have two polygon layers with the same name (New scratch layer). Are you sure, you choose the correct one in algorithm input? Please, remove the second one.

Hello,
There is also polygon layer named 'area' on your screenshot.
Please, make sure you are using correct non-empty layer as processing input.

'area' is the one that is to be used, at least according to the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... QvpPl-J7b4). It is the one which is highlighted.

In that case, make sure the 'area' layer is non empty. On the screenshot I can see that you are editing (and probably selecting from) the 'New scratch layer' layer not the 'area' layer.

problem solved. The required plugins were not installed.

The GNI document is not a comprehensive installation document. I didn't realise that the Scipy clustering plugin is classed as experimental, for example. It's necessary to tell the plugin manager to display experimental plugins before it can be listed and installed.

Got there in the end.

Thanks
